My years of "life experience" have enriched my understanding in the areas of grief, child/adolescent development, marriage, family struggles, character development, and in the mental health field. I hold a Masters in Elementary Education from The University of Mississippi. I was an Elementary Teacher for 7 years, co-owned a business for 10 years, became an Equine Instructor for an at -risk youth program and served in that "arena" for 7 years. When my sons were leaving "the nest", I told my husband of now 33 years, that I felt God calling me to take this "life experience" and become a therapist. I now have a Masters from Amridge University and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor in Mississippi. I was fortunate to work in Community Mental Health as I trained and learned many invaluable skills that have taught me much! I now operate a private practice where I believe my strengths are working with women, children, and families using the gifts and experiences that God has entrusted to me. I am a Christian with a Biblical World View who believes that God loves us dearly and He has a future and a hope for us! Sometimes however, we need help to overcome the daily struggles in this life to believe that Truth! It is my prayer that I can truly be helpful to those He sends my way. In the power of Christ Alone! Each of us struggle from time to time with experiences that we are walking through. Having someone to talk with during those times can be extremely helpful. As a Licensed Professional Counselor at Choices Creative Therapy, LLC. I have witnessed the benefit of simply "having someone to hear me" with my clients. Therapy offers relief at times when what is weighing on our hearts just needs to be shared in a trusted space. I personally have experienced my own grief from losing loved ones and I understand the process of healing from great loss. My experiences as a therapist working in community mental health as well as privately, have given me the privilege to work with clients that suffer with the symptoms of depression, anxiety, and the effects of trauma. My hope and goal when circumstances are difficult or unchanging, is to listen, observe, and when possible offer skills that can empower my clients to effectively cope and restore their mental health in order to press on in this journey called life. Working with families can be an exciting challenge! As a Licensed Professional Counselor at Choices Creative Therapy, LLC, I have experience working with couples that are considering marriage and would like to get to know each other in ways that can be helpful before and after they say "I do"! I also work with couples that are married and need tune ups or in some cases overhauls. My background and counseling technique is based on a Biblical/Christian Worldview. Though I do work with clients that have a more secular view, I truly believe that God's Word has the answer to how we must treat one another in order to have the relationships that are truly successful. Family therapy, involving the entire crew or just a few is also an area where I have experience. I have been married over 30 years to my husband Van and we have raised 2 sons who are now married. Van and I have 3 grandchildren at this post, with one on the way! The challenges within the family unit...varying personalities, communication, responsibilities, interests, school, jobs, friends, etc...…I have personally walked through them! I have also had the honor of working with other families to help them navigate the rough patches that they are experiencing. God loves families and He created them with His purposes in mind. Therapy with horses! Choices Creative Therapy, LLC, seasonally offers **qualified clients' sessions with the equine herd. As a certified P.A.T.H. (Professional Association of Therapeutic Horsemanship) Instructor as well as a Licensed Professional Counselor, I have had extensive experience working with clients and horses. This unique experience offers time with the horse and therapist in an environment that doesn't resemble a counselors office. I have worked with children, women who have experienced trauma, families, and couples. Over the years, I have observed and experienced that my clients that spend time with horses in therapy have "aha" moments that might take weeks in therapy to discover. The horses have a special something that increases self confidence, fosters reactions, encourages conversations, discovers personality traits, uncovers struggles, and leads to heart felt talks that might not take place in other settings. Horses reflect whoever is working with them and they do not judge. They are truly a gift from God that aid in healing hearts.
